Anonymous Pentameter

April 16, 2009

“Once, in my early thirties, I saw that I was a speck of light in the great
river of light that undulates through time,” says Tina the Lesbian, quoting a poem from Jane Kenyon.

“Once, like a few years ago, I watched a porno where a woman shot a bear with a rifle, and then she and her guy friend did it doggie-style on the dead bear,” says Anonymous Doug.

And in the uncomfortable silence that followed, Tina the Lesbian came to begrudgingly admit that she learned more about the depths of humanity and the profound truths of the universe from an Anonymous Doug story about watching a couple having sex on a bear they just shot than in a piece of poetry that held deep personal meaning for her.

  1. Why am i having dirty thoughts about Sarah Palin right now?

  2. At first, I mistook “undulates” for “ungulates” and thought you were talking about deer and elk and stuff.

  3. I’d like to see what Anonymous Doug would do with Kenyon’s “A piece of burned meat/ wears my clothes, speaks/ in my voice, dispatches obligations/ haltingly, or not at all.
It is tired of trying/ to be stouthearted, tired/ beyond measure,” Although I’m not sure how much revision he would need to do. You’re tricky, RF, getting us to read poetry during Poetry Month.

  4. Burned meat wearing clothes? Giving orders and being lazy? Sounds like a Psycho Dave poem.

  5. ‘Why am i having dirty thoughts about Sarah Palin right now?’

The real question Cew, is why you weren’t having dirty thoughts about Sarah Palin.

My favorite quote from a porno is, ‘women run the world, they own 50 percent of the money, and one hundred percent of the pussy’. I think there is a certan undeniable truth about that.
